Sea room

The project room was born from the recovery of the large specimen of Fin Whale (named "Annie" - See here 3D reconstruction of the skeleton) occurred in 1990 near Piombino. The external shape of the building, which partly extends underground, recalls the profile of a large cetacean. Inside the room, the differences in level offer the public different points of observation of the skeletal system of the whale: by walking along a ramp, like a descent to the bottom of the sea, you can admire the specimen in all its grandeur.

On 16 December 2020 the Sala del Mare turned twenty years old.

The visitor during the itinerary can delve into topics such as the classification of Cetaceans and their biology, physical and chemical adaptations, problems linked to the relationship with man, conservation and protection. Are also exhibited in the room other mediterranean cetacenas species; turtles, fish and birds linked to the marine environment complete the conceptual itinerary dedicated to the Mediterranean geographical area.

The room is equipped with a virtual room and marine-themed effects projected on the floor which complete the visitor's immersive experience.
